It all begins with an idea.
A 2016 volunteering trip to the Calais migrant camp, known as ‘The Jungle’ was where it all began for John Godfrey, founder and face of Dignity + Aid. The squalid conditions and lack of even the most basic sanitary infrastructure left a harrowing impression. Something had to be done about the situation.
The initial goal was simple: Empower migrants to wash when and where they choose on the go with 1 month’s worth of sanitary essentials.
The production of the pack was to be funded by adopting a ‘buy one, give one’ model, wherein music festival goers would buy a pack for their own use at festivals and feel confident in knowing that a migrant in need would receive a pack as well.
Since then, Dignity + Aid has adapted and responded to the changes of world events as well as feedback from charities in Calais. People need more than the pack can offer; they need better access to medicine, legal representation and everyday practical items.
This ignited the drive to reach further and do more. We can help fund the charities working on the ground who have the deep knowledge of the needs of migrants. The pack is a symbol of aid, a gesture to others that you not only stand for a cause but actively participate in it. By selling packs to young, socially engaged festival attendants, we hope to create awareness for the cause. Not only that, they have something to show for it. Together we can make a difference.
“We’re currently seeking festival partners for the upcoming 2023 Summer season. If you are an organiser and would like to collaborate with Dignity + Aid, please get in touch through our website.”
